I think democracy means that people themselves decide on the policy, be it in direct elections or in referendums. And the election results, the French presidential election and the Greek parliamental election show that the people in Europe want a different policy that the troika wants." (SOUNDBITE) (German) DOROTHEA KOEHLER SAYING: "We are here today to make clear that there will be blockupy days next week. Even despite the fact that the city banned all events it will still go ahead. We will be here on the squares, we will hold our rallies and demonstrations, and behind it that we want to demonstrate against a policy that makes the rich even richer and the poor even poorer. And the ECB here in Frankfurt plays a big part in that and that we cannot accept and we will demonstrate against that." VARIOUS OF OCCUPY PROTESTER ON BULL TOP SHOT OF DEMONSTRATION

- Story Text: Anti-capitalism protesters from the Occupy movement stage a protest outside the stock exchange in Frankfurt.
The protest is part of a global day of action seeing thousands of people rallying in cities including Moscow, New York, Athens and Madrid.
About 100 Occupy supporters gathered outside the stock exchange, mock-slashing an iron cast statue of a bull to simulate the demise of the power of money. The troika who determine austerity measures in Greece, were the focus of the demonstrators.
"These three people dictate to the people of Europe, the democratically elected parliaments, which policy they must follow. I think democracy means that people themselves decide on the policy, be it in direct elections or in referendums," demonstrator Joerg Rohde said. "And the election results, the French presidential election and the Greek parliamental election show that the people in Europe want a different policy that the troika wants."
Meanwhile, 'Occupy Frankfurt' protesters vow to keep up their vigil outside the ECB (European Central Bank) building.
Over seven months, demonstrators have braved the often glacial conditions in their 50 or so brightly coloured tents placed next to a gigantic euro symbol -- the logo of the ECB, guardians of the under-fire single currency.
While major camps in London, Madrid and New York have long since been dismantled, the Frankfurt "indignants" have vowed to continue their crusade.
Dorothea Koehler from Occupy told reuters that the so-called blockupy days next week will go ahead despite the city ruling against it.
"We will be here on the squares, we will hold our rallies and demonstrations, and behind it that we want to demonstrate against a policy that makes the rich even richer and the poor even poorer. And the ECB here in Frankfurt plays a big part in that and that we cannot accept and we will demonstrate against that," Koehler said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
