Everything from the latest mobile phones to satellite communications equipment is showcased at the Wireless Japan Expo, a three-day event which closes on Friday (July 23).
Japanese electronics giant Panasonic displayed various prototype phones which double as headphones or even sunglasses.
"These are 'concept models' of mobile phones that will be available beyond 2010. At this time, mobile phones will be able to handle communication at 100mbps and phones will cease to be just phones. They will be part of a LAN network and they will have to be wearable as well as all because we will be in a wireless environment," said Satoshi Kojima, senior coordinator of Panasonic's corporate advertising group.
For those who have old-fashioned phones equipped with a camera, Fuji Film has created a portable printer, which can produce prints of photos in a matter of seconds.
In the world of satellite communications, satellite television is due to go mobile this October when Mobile Broadcasting Corp launches it's portable television set.
"This is the first technology in the world which will enable subscribers to receive data, audio and video via satellite on a portable device," said Keiko Ando, manager of public and press relations of Mobile Broadcasting Corp.
Users will be able to see more than 40 channels round the clock regardless of where they are in Japan. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
