- Story Text: Moscow woke up to a heavy snowfall on Thursday (November 29) amid expectations of the most snowy winter in the last 50 years.
Streets were swamped with snow on Thursday morning while the snowfall has shown no sign of receding.
Moscow weather bureau said the amount of snow on Thursday morning was 16 centimetres which is at least double the norm.
Forecasters added that by the weekend the amount of snow might reach half a meter.
While bringing joy to some, many people found the snow quite irritating on Thursday morning.
"So bad, so much of it (of snow), it needs to be put somewhere, I think so. She thinks so too. I want to sleep and I have a headache. That's why snow is bad, it's evil," said Moscow citizens Kostya and Anya.
"(Snow) brings some kind of happiness, the feeling of the New Year and expectations of holidays, I guess," said banker Alexei from Moscow.
"(Snow evokes) horrible emotions, I don't know. Horrible, just horrible. Dirt and puddles and all that," said Moscow citizen Svetlana.
First snowfall caused huge traffic jams in Moscow. Over 70 flights were delayed in the Moscow Domodedovo airport overnight due to the heavy snowfall. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
