- Story Text: Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met the International Olympic Committee's inspection team in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday (April 30) to support the city's bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
Lula, the thirteen IOC commission members and Rio authorities gathered for dinner at the city's famous Sugar Loaf mountain.
Rio's famous samba school Beija-Flor performed for the IOC team and some members even danced samba with the troupe's beauty queens.
Rio is making every effort to impress the group of evaluators led by former Moroccan athlete Nawal El Moutawakel. The team is set to visit the city's sporting facilities on Friday and give their final assessment on Saturday.
The tourist city, which is set to host the 2014 World Cup, has pledged to cover a staggering $14.4 billion budget.
