- Story Text: Polish police said on Wednesday (June 20) they believe they recovered the body of a young Irish soccer fan whose disappearance over the weekend sparked a massive search.
Twenty-one-year-old Nolan James, who travelled to Poland to cheer on Ireland at Euro 2012, had gone missing after a night out with friends in the northern city of Bydgoszcz.
"The remains were recovered today at about 1100 (local time) in the river canal in Bydgoszcz," Public Prosecutor Wlodyimierz Marszalkowski said. "Documents, money and mobile phone of the missing person were found on the body. There is no evidence indicating foul play."
He said Nolan 's body was found in the Brda river, near where he had gone missing on Sunday.
"So far we have not found any evidence of struggle or any violence used against the deceased, there is no evidence of robbery. Therefore, at present, we believe it was an accident." he said.
Nolan stayed at a hotel in Bydgoszcz which is located between the Polish cities of Poznan and Gdansk where Ireland played their matches. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
