- Story Text: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has met Tommy Franks, the U.S. general who would lead any U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Franks, who is Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chief of Staffs, met Mubarak in Cairo on Tuesday (January 28). Franks arrived in the region last week.
The meeting took place one day after UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix delivered a highly critical report to the U.N. Security Council on Monday.
The report came two months after U.N. experts resumed their inspections in Iraq following a four-year hiatus.
Blix said Iraq had been cooperating on the process of inspections but criticised it for not giving enough evidence on its past chemical, biological and missile weapons.
However, he did not corroborate U.S. claims that Baghdad had rebuilt its arsenal. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
