- Story Text: Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo expressed his condolences to the Venezuelan nation on Wednesday (March 6) over the death of their President Hugo Chavez whom he described as "singular character" who had great influence in his country and his continent.
"I want to express my condolences in the name of the government to the family of President Chavez, to the government and to the Venezuelan nation. Secondly I want to recognise that Hugo Chavez was a singular character who had an enormous influence in his country, Venezuela, and he also had an enormous influence in the entire Ibero-American continent," Margallo said before attending an event at the San Pablo CEU University Margallo added that he hoped the transition in Venezuela would be "carried out calmly and in peace" and that relations between Spain and Venezuela would remain positive.
