- Story Text: Fifteen Spanish provinces were affected on Thursday (July 4) by a heatwave fuelled by a warm wind from the Sahara, prompting the national weather agency to predict temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius in Seville and a high of 37 degrees in the Spanish capital.
On the streets of Madrid, some tourists seemed excited about the hot weather.
"That's why we came," British tourist Steve said, adding that the sunshine was an improvement on the weather back home in Wales.
In the capital, people took to the streets armed with hats, water and impromptu sunshades.
Madrid resident Gabriela said she had deliberately bought a hat and sunglasses to fend off the rays.
The Spanish Meteorology Agency said the heatwave will continue for a next few days and temperatures probably will peak on Monday.
It issued a warning about the risk of forest fires in Galicia, Andalusia and the Canary Islands due to high temperatures. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
