But she has already been in close contact with the rest of the herd. She has already spent some time with the others so they have been able to get used to her by seeing and smelling her. At some point she will be completely integrated in the herd. The first step was made today. The weather was so nice that we let her outside. We certainly saw how lively elephant babies can be." - Story Text: Baby elephant Temi has set foot outdoors for the first time on a warm spring-like day in the Berlin zoo.
Asian elephant baby Temi (Burmese - Daughter) was allowed outdoors at the Berlin zoo in Friedrichsfelde for the first time on Friday (February 1).
The three-month-old baby elephant stayed very close to her mother Kewa, Temi played with zoo keepers, jumped over tree stumps and was treated a nice refreshing bath.
Temi ... has already been in close contact with the rest of the herd. She has already spent some time with the others so they have been able to get used to her by seeing and smelling her. At some point she will be completely integrated in the herd...... We certainly saw how lively elephant babies can be," said Berlin zoologist Joachim Kormann.
Born on November 2, 2001, Temi has grown 20 centimetres in the past three months and is 1.20 metres high.
The baby was allowed out because of the very mild temperatures, 10 degrees celsius. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
