- Story Text: The sister of Australian drug trafficker Schapelle Corby thanked the Indonesian government on Wednesday (May 23) after authorities shortened her 20-year jail sentence by five years.
Former beauty therapist Corby was caught with about 4 kg (9 lb) of cannabis in a surfboard bag at Denpasar airport in 2004 and has lodged a clemency appeal against her sentence of which she has served seven years.
Indonesian's government on Tuesday (May 22) said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed the order cutting the sentence two days ago.
Corby's sister welcomed the decision.
"I would like to say thank you to Mr. President (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) and...yes...I have nothing more to say," Corby's sister Mercedes said on Wednesday, who lives in Bali with her husband.
She then visited her sister in prison along with several relatives and friends. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
