- Story Text: Polish international Zbigniew Boniek scored twice in Roma's 4-0 victory over Atlanta in the Italian first Division championship on January 5. Roma were the only winners of the top six clubs in the divisions, as lower-placed teams gained vital points in their fights against relegation. Roma's Brazilian international Falcao watched from the stands as his replacement, Boniek, slipped a low drive home one minute before half-time. To the delight of the 31,000 home crowd, Boniek also scored Roma's second goal in the 60th minute. Their third goal came through a blistering drive from local born Giuseppe Giannini in the 74th minute. Atlanta fans greeted the goal by showering the field with cans and fruit before fighting a running battle with police. There were two arrests. Roma's fourth goal was scored by Roberto Ruzzo in the 78th minute. The victory puts Roma into third place in the division with 20 points from 16 games, one point behind Napoli and seven points behind league leaders Juventus.
