- Story Text: According to Syrian newspapers and the government-controlled radio, Damascus said on January 4 that it would take part in resisting what it called any United States and Israeli aggression against Libya, using political and military means. Meanwhile, men have been training at a camp run by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) General Command. The Command is an anti-Arafat, pro-Syria, pro-Libyan group. PFLP General Command leader, Ahmed Jibril, told his men that the United States and Israel were guilty of a long list of "terrorist acts" from Hiroshima to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. In an interview with the U.S. television network, National Broadcasting Company Incorporated (NBC) Jibril said his men would not only fight U.S. soldiers on Libyan territory but destroy all American interests in the region.
