- Story Text: New Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola shows off his new team ahead of the 2013/14 Bundesliga season.
Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola presented his new side to the public on Tuesday (July 23), ahead of his first season at the club.
Guardiola took over from Jupp Heynckes in June after Bayern won the unprecedented treble of Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League trophies last season.
Tens of thousands of fans gathered at the team's Allianz Arena to cheer on their heroes and the new team leader.
The event began with the team's three trophies being carried onto the pitch to the delight of the fans.
Then each player was called up onto the pitch one by one with special cheers for the new arrivals, Spain's Thiago Alcantara, Mario Goetze and Guardiola.
The team then carried out a training session for the thousands of fans to see how they play together.
Asked about whether the 2013/14 season would be as good as the last, defender Philipp Lahm told journalists:
"Every opponent is always dangerous. We also lost a game last season. It is not always a given that each season is like last year. It was a complete exception. So many points have not been won in the 50 years of the Bundesliga. That's why we have to win points from game to game, from the beginning and then we will see how many we lose, how many we draw but of course we want to win the most games," Lahm said.
The team will take on Guardiola's former team FC Barcelona at home on Wednesday (July 24) evening in the so-called Uli Hoeness friendly cup.
Midfielder Franck Ribery said he was looking forward to the game.
"It is a good friendly for both teams, and it will be fun for the audience. We have to play seriously. Then we will play against Dortmund," he told journalists.
Bayern will then play their first Bundesliga match on August 9 at home against Borussia Moenchengladbach. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
