- Story Text: British fashion designer Matthew Williamson's London Fashion Week collection had its beginnings in Russia.
The initial inspiration came from Russian artefacts like Faberge eggs.
"Then as the process evolved, it swerved away from Russia and it's now not geographically specific but it really is about ornate detail and decorative elements and I tried to express those with a very clean modern graphic edge", Williamson told Reuters Television.
Graphic prints are a Williamson trademark and they've been used to full effect in his new range, which was shown at London's Royal Opera House on Sunday (February 19).
Long flowing evening dresses were boldly patterned and adorned with jewels. Duck egg blue leather look trousers and dresses were splashed with an oriental style print.
Williamson's interest in military wear inspired a coat and smartly tailored jackets.
With more big British designers showing than ever before, the city's fashion industry has been the talk of London Fashion Week.
Williamson offered his thoughts on why London appears to be the place to show.
"I don't think London could be riding much higher than it is at the moment in all industries and fashion is no exception. The spotlight is on the city of course this year. It's always been my favourite city to show in, it's my home town as well so I'm a big fan of showing here."
