- Story Text: The third ASEAN-EU Business Summit (AEBS) took place in Hanoi on Saturday (March 9) in conjunction with the 19th ASEAN Economic Ministers Retreat.
During the meetings, 700 local and international high-level policy makers and international business leaders will seek ways to further improve business in the most relevant trade and investment sectors such as agri-food, automotive, financial services, ICT, infrastructure/connectivity and pharmaceuticals.
Participants at the AEBS are expected to discuss the formation of a private-public dialogue forum with the participation of business communities from the two regions, ASEAN Economic Ministers and EU Trade High Commissioner Karel De Gucht.
"The future success of this region and of Europe will be built on regional and global value change. That is what we want to foster," De Gucht said in opening remarks.
De Gucht also called for more ASEAN investment in the EU.
"EU is the largest investor in the ASEAN region. What we see, what we need to see now is for more investment to flow in the other direction. The ASEAN companies that are presented here today, let me say that Europe is ready to welcome you with open arms."
In the past years, ASEAN has achieved world-wide recognition for being one of the most dynamic and integrated regions, while the EU presents great potential to bring advanced technologies, innovation and expertise to ten dynamic economies of ASEAN.
In 2012, the EU topped the list of FDI investors and was the third largest trading partner in ASEAN. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
