- Story Text: Italian police forces will continue patrolling around the capsized Costa Concordia to protect it from any intrusion, police said on Monday (February 6).
The 290 metre-long ship capsized and foundered close to the Tuscan island of Giglio on January 13 after its struck a rock which tore a large gash in its hull.
Police chief of Grossetto, Michele Laratta, who oversees operations on the island of Giglio, said teams would continue patrolling around the clock to secure the ship and to prevent anyone from trying to steal objects from the Concordia.
"At this point we have decided to diminish the force on the ground to give more space to the people of Giglio, but we have decided to prolong the security around the boat around the clock with a safety zone for other boats and over the ship too for the security of the ship. And this situation will last until needed."
