- Story Text: Portuguese designer Fatima Lopes started the Autumn/Winter pret-a-porter collections in Paris on Tuesday (February 28) with a show dedicated to the idea of morphology, the biological study of the changing shape and structure of the body.
"The whole collection is inspired on the human body. The printings are outside and inside the body I've created for the show. And I tried to use degrade (English: degradation) of colours of the red blood and Bordeaux red and different colours of red, nude and black," Lopes said backstage before the show.
After wowing fashionistas last season with a show at the Eiffel Tower, the designer chose to show her collection at the French Army Museum in the Hotel des Invalides.
Lopes used fabrics like leather and fox which acted as a second skin. She played with proportions such as jackets which were either enlarged or shrunk to emphasize the female form.
Fabric was slit into strips to copy the spinal column, with prints mimicking the graduation of blood into and out of the body and playing on the idea of strangeness.
Paris Fashion Week is the culmination of the bi-annual fashion events in New York, London and Milan with shows expected by: Chanel, Lanvin, Givenchy, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen.
Dior and Yves Saint Laurent are also showing with YSL announcing on Monday (February 27) its creative director Stefano Pilati will be stepping down after this season. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
