- Story Text: Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic met Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta in Bucharest on Thursday (October 17), at the beginning of a two-day visit to the country.
The two politicians discussed Romanian support for Serbia's accession talks with the European Union and its efforts to normalise relations with its regional neighbours.
Dacic talked about possibilities for the further development of economic relations between the two countries.
"I want to thank Romania for the support they are giving us on our European path. I also want to say thanks for the understanding of the problems Serbia has, including Kosovo," Dacic said after the meeting.
His Romanian counterpart said his country would stand by Serbia as it aims to move closer to Europe.
"Romania, as a neighbour and a friend, will support Serbian integration in Europe with everything we can. Serbia can learn from the good things, but also from the mistakes Romania has made in its path to EU integration," said Ponta.
Romania is the third most significant EU partner for Serbia in terms of trade after Italy and Germany.
Dacic and Ponta also announced plans to hold a joint government meeting at the beginning of next year.
Dacic will take part in a ministerial conference in Bucharest this week. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
