- Story Text: The largest flag ever made was unfurled on Monday (May 27) near the Bucharest airport in Clinceni, 35 kilometres southeast of Bucharest, according to Guinness World Records.
It took dozens of men to unload the huge roll of material from the lorry and it was no easy feat to keep the five-ton flag on the ground because of windy conditions.
The flag measured to 349 metres by 227 metres and occupies an area three times the size of a football field, according to the Guinness World Records official Jack Brockbank who measured the flag before pronouncing it the biggest flag in the world.
"It therefore gives me great pleasure to officially recognise the new Guinness World Record's title," Brockbank announced after measuring the flag. "Congratulation!"
He said that Romania's flag covers an area of about 79,290 square metres, dethroning Lebanon who has held the record previously.
The manager of the factory that made the flag, Adrian Dragomir, said that it took 200 people working up to 16 hours per day several weeks and more than 70 kilometres of thread to make the flag. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
