- Story Text: Sue Jones, the mother of a 23-year-old British woman who was killed in Thailand twelve years ago, made a fresh plea for information on Thursday (August 9) to track down her daughter's killer.
Jones, along with police officers from Dyfed-Powys in Wales and officials from the British embassy to Thailand, met with the Thai Department of Special Investigation in the northern province of Chiang Mai.
Jones is in Thailand to appeal for anyone with information about her daughter's murder to come forward.
"I'm convinced there is someone who has information that could lead to the arrest of the person who took my daughter's life away," Jones said during a news conference on the eve of the twelfth anniversary of her daughter Kirsty's death.
Jones has also offered 10,000 British pounds (491,000 Thai baht) for any leads that lead to a conviction.
British student Kirsty Jones was three months into a two-year round the world trip when she was found dead in a low-cost guesthouse in Chiang Mai in 2000. There was evidence that she was raped and strangled to death.
22 people including residents at the guest house where Kirsty had been staying have had their DNA tested, but so far no match has been found to a sample discovered at the crime scene.
Thai police have made a number of arrests but no charges have ever been made. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
