- Story Text: Egyptian explosives experts defused two primitive bombs planted on a Cairo metro line on Thursday (September 19), the state news agency reported, causing a partial closure of the network.
The bombs had been found 100 metres (106.4 yards) from Helmeyet el-Zaytoun station in northeast Cairo.
Later in the day, the metro line was reopened and commuters were seen coming in and out of the station.
Militant attacks have been on the rise since the overthrow in July of Mohamed Mursi, Egypt's first freely-elected president.
The authorities say they are in a new war against Islamist militants. State media have labelled the Muslim Brotherhood, the group that propelled Mursi to power last year, as an enemy of the state.
Mass arrests have netted at least 2,000 people, mostly Mursi supporters, since his downfall. The former president and many Brotherhood leaders have been thrown in prison. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
