- Story Text: Alex Song knows he must fight for his place in Barcelona's team after joining in a big money transfer from Arsenal, the Cameroon midfielder said on Tuesday (August 21).
The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal at the weekend after moving for a fee of 19 million euros.
"I am happy today, I am very happy to be here today, because it is a dream come true to be here in Barcelona," Song told reporters and fans at a news conference.
"They are the best team in the world with the best players and it is a great pleasure for me to be among them," he added.
Song said he was willing to play anywhere for a Barca team that has won 14 titles including three La Liga and two Champions League trophies in the last four seasons, and stated he shared the hunger for more with the Catalan side.
"Barcelona have won everything so far and they are still hungry and want to win it all. And I want to win it all too and I still haven't won anything since I started playing football. I am very excited about the idea of winning ti all. I am very happy, and I am sure we are going to keep winning because they have a winner mentality. I want that too and that coincides with their hunger and that is a good thing, he said".
Laughing after being asked to compare his new team with childhood hero Steven Seagal, the international player said nothing would stop the new Barca if the team managed to mix all the talents in it.
"I used to like Steven Seagal movies, and just like him, Barca's effective game seems to come from another planet. When you see the kind of football they play and the quality of the result you realise that Barcelona has everything. We must keep the rythm going, we have to go on playing. Everything is here and if we keep on mixing our all talents nothing is going to stop us," he said.
Barca's next game is at home to La Liga champions Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup first leg on Thursday (August 23). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
