- Story Text: A group of adventurers completed the longest river expedition ever - on the Nile.
It was possibly the first and last expedition of its kind. Six adventure- loving rafters from different countries set off from the Bujagali Falls in Jinja, Uganda on January 17, 2004 with the aim of navigating the Nile along its entire course.
Negotiating their way North to the Mediterranean off Egypt took 4 months. Now, in Cairo, they stopped for their last break before ending their journey.
All six team members have lived and worked in East Africa for the last 5 years. Between them they boast an incredible 50 years of white-water and expedition experience. A multi-national team, members are from South Africa, New Zealand, England, Ireland and France.
The Nile runs through three countries: Uganda, Sudan and Egypt.
Each country is facing huge economical, social or environmental challenges. The team intends to record issues they have come across on their journey in a documentary film. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
