- Story Text: Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker said finance ministers will not take a decision on Monday (November 12) on unfreezing the next emergency loan to Greece, despite the progress made by Greece in meeting its political commitments.
"I'm very impressed by the recent political achievements of Greece. The parliament has approved an ambitious reform programme last Wednesday and just voted last night the budget for 2013. Step by step, Greece is accomplishing what we were expecting in terms of obligations required from Greece. Today, we will evaluate the Troika report that was submitted to us during the night. There won't be any final decision today but I believe the general approach of the preparatory works highlights that the next disbursement for Greece will be organized in the best way possible," Juncker said.
Juncker was speaking in Brussels ahead of a meeting with the euro zone finance ministers, known as the Eurogroup. Loans to Greece were held up after Athens went off track with promised reforms and fiscal consolidation. The Greek parliament passed an austerity budget for 2013 late on Sunday and a structural reform package on Wednesday to meet conditions for the release of the next tranche of 31.5 billion euros of emergency loans from the euro zone. But Greece's lenders have not agreed yet on how to make Greece's debt sustainable, leaving the ministers therefore without the possibility to make a final decision on the next aid tranche. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
