- Story Text: Argentines and particpants from throughtout the world claim a world record for the longest painting.
A group of Argentines, spanning ages from 3 to 99, recently claimed they broke the world record for the longest painting when they decorated a 2,300-metre sheet with messages and pictures dedicated to peace.
The painting coverd nine blocks and broke the record of 2,011-metres which was set in Toronto, Canada.
The project was spearheaded by the non-governmental organisation, the Mutual Association of Ecologic Environmental Resources, which provided the painting materials to the participants.
More than 2,500 people contributed to the painting, including public and private schoolchildren, university students, the elderly and even professional artists from Argentina, Japan, Russia, France, China, Spain, Italy, England and the United States.
Each artist was assigned a 1 x .8-metre space for them to paint, draw or write something related to world peace.
"There is almost always war in the east, for Iraq, Iran. The United States is attacking Iraq and we don't want that to happen," said 11-year-old artist Tomas Lisado.
The project began in September and the painting will be exhibited in April in Barcelona. Following the exhibition, the painting will be cut up into several pieces and sent to presidents of countries throughout the world. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
