- Story Text: While many in the world have celebrated New Year by raising a glass or two, a Belorussian man has taken this a step further - by breaking the world record for lifting 40 kilogramme caskets of beer.
Vyacheslav Khoron spent 36 hours lifting the caskets 4,229 times, raising a total weight 168, 840 kg.
The task required the 39-year-old to consume 20 bananas, 20 oranges and several litters of water in order to sustain his energy levels.
Officials from the Guinness Book of Records allow competitors to have five minute breaks for the food and a short rest at the end of each hour. Other witnesses included visitors to the Minsk restaurant where the event was held.
Vyacheslav said his record was proof of the importance of mental strength rather than just brute force.
"First of all I want to prove that human abilities are limitless. It is not necessary to be big or have huge muscles.
The most important thing is to have strong spirit and will", he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
