- Story Text: Eighty-six couples tied the knot in Taiwan on Saturday (November 2), in a municipal event held at the University of Taipei in the 207th of its kind The mass wedding, organised by the Taipei city government saw many couples arriving dressed for their big days in classic Western styles, while others donned traditional Chinese wedding garments or those representing their ethnic groups.
As far as Zao Xiu-hong and his bride Zhong Fang-mei were concerned, it was the more the merrier.
"We're taking part in a mass wedding because our friends in our circle have never had this experience. I think so many couples sharing this blessing together is a very special thing. Also, many traditional routines can be simplified here, and I think that's very good," Zao said.
The wedding was also attended by Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin, and a crowd of local media.
For Wang Zheng-xian and Chang Zi-Qing, taking part in a mass wedding was about sharing their love with the world.
"Everyone can see us getting married. This is a very important day for us. We want to let more people know," Wang said.
Mass weddings are becoming increasing popular in Taiwan and mainland China.
