- Story Text: Wax museum chain Madame Tussauds unveiled the latest addition to its collection of lifelike statues on Thursday (December 18) at its New York location.
The launch of the wax figure of Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the hugely successful movie franchise "The Hunger Games" portrayed by actress Jennifer Lawrence, took place in three different Madame Tussauds locations, including Hollywood and London.
Each Katniss figure has a different look and New York's version is based on Katniss from the first movie when she took place in the 74th Hunger Games.
Eric Fluet, representing the museum's New York location said that the Tussauds listened to its guests in selecting the character.
"Katniss was a great fit for not only what our guests telling us what they want to see, but also these three locations in New York, Hollywood and London have a film area in our attractions. So 'the Hunger Games' set fits nicely in that area," he explained.
To achieve the lifelike look Fluet said that 20 artists worked with Lions Gate Entertainment for several months.
Fans of the movie who got the first glimpse of the statue said that they were happy about the high quality of the figure.
"I love the detail of it. It makes it seem like it's so real," said 16-year old student Liana Crenny.
"I like how, like in all the movies all of her hair is always braided like that and it's exactly the same in the statue," added her friend, Mackenzie Puccio.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - part 1", the latest movie in the franchise has taken in over $277 million dollars (USD) at the box office since opening last month.
The first "Hunger Games" took in $152.5 million on its opening weekend in 2012, according to Boxofficemojo.
Lionsgate, the studio behind "The Hunger Games" series, split author Suzanne Collins' final book in her science fiction trilogy into two movies, with the next set for release in 2015. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
