- Story Text: The town of Nassiriya was among the areas hit in wave of attacks across Iraq on Saturday (August 10).
Two car bombs exploded there, killing six people.
They were among a wave of bombings across the country during Eid al-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
Nearly 80 people were killed in all in what appeared to be coordinated bombings targeting the Shi'ite population in the main.
Twenty five people were wounded in the bombings in Nassiriya, a town 300 km (185 miles) southeast of Baghdad.
Night-time pictures from Saturday showed metal shop fronts contorted by one of the blasts, with blacken scraps of debris littering the ground.
Two wheels on an axle were all that was left of one of the cars used in the attack.
This has been one of the deadliest Ramadan months in years, with regular bomb attacks killing scores of people, especially in the capital. The latest bombings were similar to attacks in Baghdad on Tuesday (August 6) in which 50 died.
More than 1,000 Iraqis have been killed in July, the highest monthly death toll since 2008, - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
