I'm really happy with the results. I think that each piece is really strong in its own right and has the signature of the girl, the student that made the fabric. And also has all these different references and it's modern and contemporary and new, which is really what I wanted them all to be." - Story Text: British and Mexican designers help young designers to put on an artsy fashion show in Mexico City.
International designers Kate Lewis, Lydia Lavin and Fernando Bermudez recently joined forces to produce a fashion show with Mexican design students, inspired by the Franz Mayer Museum Collection.
Sponsored by the British Council, the project provided students with an opportunity to explore a multinational fusion of styles and creativity under the leadership of Lewis, a British textile designer, and Lavin and Bermudez, Mexican fashion designers.
The team of designers led students from the Iberoamericana University design department to create a collection based on the exhibits of the traditional folklore art of the Franz Mayer Museum.
"I'm so impressed with this," said Lewis. "I'm really happy with the results. I think that each piece is really strong in its own right and has the signature of the girl, the student that made the fabric. And also has all these different references and it's modern and contemporary and new, which is really what I wanted them all to be."
"Fashion in Motion" was shown at the museum, where models posed alongside the artwork.
In the past, Lewis has worked with Calvin Klein, Christian Lacroix, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.
The fashion show was part of the sixth Education UK Fair that promotes educational opportunities in the United Kingdom, including scholarships in art and design available to Mexican students. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
