- Story Text: Clashes between militia and armed residents of Tripoli's Abu Salim neighbourhood erupted on Sunday (March 17), causing damage to the district.
The fighting involved a militia group from Zintan in western Libya and armed residents of Abu Salim, neighbourhood once loyal to Muammar Gaddafi.
"What happened today is a security breach from some militias that tried to storm some of the gatherings of revolutionaries who secure the area, so the revolutionaries stopped them from doing this and some clashes happened but these clashes resulted in no deaths, just some light injuries," said Saleh Omran Alburky, head of Abu Salim Military Council.
Well-armed fighters from Zintan are one of many militias outside government control. After Tripoli fell, the Zintan rebels took over a school in the district and turned it into a military base. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
