- Story Text: Stay patient Anchorman fans! Comedian Will Ferrell sits down in an intimate setting, with a small audience at the Newseum in Washington D.C. on Tuesday (December 3) to discuss the long-awaited, fan-demanded sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Ferrell was interviewed by Washington Post columnist Ann Hornnady, and was asked about what he likes most about the character he plays: big deal anchorman, Ron Burgundy.
"I think he is just this lovable buffoon," Ferrell said. "I think audiences like watching this guy who thinks he's an expert in everything and you can see the flicker behind his eye, that, 'I hope these people believe what I am saying'".
The Newseum has opened an exhibition on local television news in the 1970s - 1980s era as a promotional tie-in to Ferrell's new movie, Anchorman 2.
When asked about what might be next for the actor, Ferrell jokingly took a punch at the media and entertainment industries.
"I don't know. You know, we never thought that we would do a sequel to begin with. And, of course the nature of entertainment, media, kind of follows this pattern: 'When are you ever going to make sequel? Please. Please make a sequel. Please make a sequel. Please make a sequel. Guess what? We made a sequel. Are you worried about the sequel? Are you worried about upholding the legacy of the first movie? Pretty scary... sequels don't always work, they don't ever work, in fact. Did you make a horrible decision? Is there going to be a third one?' Not that you are like that. yeah. But I think we want to just see what happens and go from there," he said.
Ferrell along with fellow actors Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner return for another round of shenanigans when Anchorman 2 opens in theaters in the United Stated on December 18.
The sequel finds San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Ferrell), returning to the news desk with a whole new set of challenges in the new, 24/7 newsworld populated by equal opportunities, integrated ethnicities and bold sexual preferences. Now married to his co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), the movie tracks Ron and his pals to see if they handle the new age of journalism. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
