- Story Text: For most aspirant filmmakers, Hollywood and movie production are out of reach.
But thanks to 18-year- old movie producer Adrian Bliss and his website, BuyACredit.com, just one single dollar could earn future movie producers a chance to see their name in movie end credits, alongside the likes of well known actors Jude Law, Stephen Fry and Sir Ian McKellan.
Law and his fellow celebrities were so enamoured by the concept behind BuyaCredit.com, they agreed to film testimonials to help support Bliss and the making of his first film, Jules Verne's 1986 novel, 'Clovis Dardentor.' In his testimonial, Law gave credit to the young entrepreneurs for their novel way of getting a film made in a tough economic climate.
"Hello, I am Jude Law. Now, more than ever, it's incredibly difficult to get a film funded, even if you have been doing it for years and have a good track record under your belt. No matter how passionate you are or how good your film could be, its still a monumental struggle to get your money together. What could make it harder is if you are a teenager, like Adrian, Toby an Ben, who found a forgotten Jules Verne novel in the British library and they knew instantly they wanted to make it into a film," said Law.
Bliss and his co-founders, Toby Stubbs and Ben Robbins have raised over $150,000 (USD) since their website was launched.
Bliss says it's a dream come true.
"We are all just having so much fun doing it," said Bliss. "And its sort of like the under dog story because we are teenagers, all three of us who work on the project and we started out with no contacts, nothing, we had no bridges anywhere and its been amazing to get the support of the people we have."
Bliss says being creative and slightly pushy went a long way in getting Jude Law on board.
"We found out that he was in London doing Hamlet and he was an actor that we had admired for so long and I personally had admired him for so long," said Bliss. "When I found out he was doing the play there I thought well that man had to walk into the theater every day to do the play so surely if I stand outside and wait for him, he's going to have to come in. So I figured out which door it would be that I would come into and stood there and waited for a couple of hours. When he came in, I just went up to him and pitched it."
Bliss and his team plan to begin production on 'Clovis Dardentor' shortly, and wrap up filming in late 2011.
The estimated total cost of the film is around $2 million (USD). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
