- Story Text: Danish director Susanne Bier's latest romantic comedy drama film "Love is All You Need" stars Pierce Brosnan, far removed from his James Bond alter-ego.
"I thought why not?" said Brosnan, when approached by Bier to act the part of a man falling in love with a woman who has cancer.
"The tragedy of losing a wife to cancer, that, you never really lose, you can always dip into it as an actor. You use yourself, within everything that you do. I thought it was quite cathartic and I thought there was, for me, a strong identification, but above all else, human."
Set in the breathtaking views of Sorrento, Italy, "Love is All You Need" focuses on a group of people all seeking love, passion and happiness, with varying degrees of success. Brosnan's character is charmed by the strength and kindness of his future daughter-in-law's mother while she deals with cancer, something the actor is personally familiar with, having lost his first wife to ovarian cancer in 1991.
"I have endured the loss of a wife, a mother to my children," said the 59-year-old actor. "To be in grief, to be in mourning, to be adrift, and then, when you least expect it, around the corner, into your life she comes, and that's my wife Keely for 19 years now. So, yes, I think you have to have faith and I think that's again, the essence of life, love and faith."
Bier's most recent effort, "In a Better World," picked up an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The director recently completed "Serena," which reunited stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. She is also known for "Brothers" (2004), which was remade into a film starring Tobey Maguire, and "Things We Lost in the Fire" (2007), an English-language melodrama starring Halle Berry.
