- Story Text: The Egyptian cities of Suez and al-Areesh were left to mourn their dead and clear up on Saturday (August 17) after a violent night of clashes between supporters of deposed president Mohamed Mursi, government security forces and those supporting the army-backed government.
The health ministry said 173 people died in clashes across Egypt on Friday (August 16).
Hundreds attended funerals and gathered to bury the dead in Suez.
One of the dead was a young member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Moataz Mahmoud.
Mahmoud was killed during clashes in central Cairo's Ramses Square on Friday (August 16) and was transported back to Suez.
Mahmoud's father announced during the burial that the family would not hold a full funeral service for their son until legitimacy and Mursi's presidency were restored.
Further west in Al-Areesh, buildings were left to burn after the city's main fire station and fire engines were set ablaze. Local media reported that the fires were started by Islamist militants supporting deposed president Mohamed Mursi.
A munitions shell was found in the remains of the burnt out fire station.
