- Story Text: A trio of astronauts said on Saturday (March 16) that they were looking forward to their launch to the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled for the end of March.
ISS Expedition 36 Commander Pavel Vinogradov, Russian flight Engineer Alexander Misurkin and NASA flight engineer Chris Cassidy answered questions from journalists and posed for photographs at the space training centre Star City outside of Moscow before boarding a bus to head to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan where they will launch.
Surrounded by families and children, the astronauts looked cheerful and ready to go on their upcoming space trip.
The crew plans a number of scientific experiments, including research on the effects of zero gravity on human cardiovascular systems as well as on alloys of different metals.
Vinogradov told journalists the crew was in a good working mood and was looking forward to their very "dense" space expedition ahead.
"The mood is good, working. So many people are here to say goodbye to us, of course it (the mood) is good," he said, adding, The programme is very dense, and that makes us happy."
The new crew will join three other astronauts at the ISS, Expedition 35 Canadian Commander Chris Hadfield, NASA flight engineer Tom Marshburn and Russian flight engineer Roman Romanenko.
Vinogradov, Misurkin, and Cassidy are set to launch on March 28, 2013 aboard the Soyuz TMA-08M spacecraft. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
