Young members of Malaysia's ruling UMNO (United Malay National Organisation) on Tuesday (April 1) joined worldwide Muslim condemnation over the screening of anti-Islam film produced in Netherlands.
Under the watchful eyes of the Malaysian police, some around 20 delegates arrived outside the Dutch Ambassador's residence around 2pm local time and started displaying posters, including one that depicted the film maker, Geert Wilders, as Satan.
Geert Wilders, a right-wing Dutch lawmaker launched his short video "Fitna" on the internet last week which accuses Koran of inciting violence, drawing waves of anger from Muslim nations.
"Memorandum of protest to the Dutch Government as a mark of our disgust toward one of the members of the Dutch parliament, that is Geert Wilders, for insulting the Prophet Muhammad," said Pirdaus Ismail, the leader of the delegation.
He also urged the Dutch government to promote religious harmony and reiterated that freedom of speech is no justification to cause injury to the feelings of Muslims.
The delegation marched noisily toward the embassy gate, and was allowed to enter the compound to hand in the memorandum.
Mydin Wholesale Emporium, a top Malaysian supermarket chain has initiated a soft boycott of Dutch products in its premises by specifying all items made in Netherlands Muslims make up more than 60 percent of the 26 million people in Malaysia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
