- Story Text: Indonesian authorities on Monday (May 14) continued to work on identifying the victims of the crashed Russian plane.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, carrying 48 people, crashed into a volcano in West Java during a demonstration flight last week.
It was carrying Indonesians, including journalists and businessmen, eight Russians, including embassy officials, pilots and technicians, two Italians, one French citizen and an American, officials said.
The investigation team at the police hospital in Jakarta said they have received 25 bags of human remains so far.
"Until last night, we have received 22 bags, 18 of them were remains of victims and the other four contained belongings. Since this morning we've received three more bags of the victims' remains," said Agus Prayitno, head of Sukanto police hospital.
He also said that the rumour that the Russian pilot's body was found intact along with a parachute, was untrue.
"I can confirm that we have received no parachute along with the remains, and none of the bodies were intact," said Prayitno.
Indonesian officials said the Russian team will focus on investigating the cause of the accident and recovering the wreckage. The local Indonesian team will handle moving the victims' remains. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
