- Story Text: Stars of stage and screen paraded down the red carpet in Dubai on Wednesday (December 10) at the opening of the International Film Festival.
It's the 11th year the emirate has hosted the glamorous event.
Middle Eastern film stars said they were proud to be a part of it.
"I like it a lot because the Dubai festival wholeheartedly supports Arab cinema and this is something that really pleases us," said Lebanese television presenter, Raya Abirached.
"I really love this festival and I respect it. Each day and each year, the Dubai festival becomes better and stronger. So I'm happy to be here today," said Egyptian actress, Luluba.
The festival will showcase 118 films from across the world, including a number of regional productions. Fifty-five of the films screened will be world premieres.
"I'm happy to have come and to see how the festival has improved and what they have done to make the festival better and better and better," said Korean-Jordanian actor, Wonho Chung.
Stars and visitors attending the opening night were treated to a screening of The Theory of Everything, a portrayal of the life of British scientist Stephen Hawking.
The opening ceremony also saw two stars honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards: 81-year-old Indian singer Asha Bhosle was given the award in recognition of her long career in Indian cinema, while Egyptian actor Nour el-Sherif was honoured for his nearly five decades of work on Egyptian television and cinema.
The festival runs for eight days. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
