- Story Text: Amateur videos posted on a social media website and said to be shot on Friday (August 16) appear to show supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi jumping off a bridge in central Cairo to avoid gunfire.
The footage, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, shows a number of Mursi supporters using a wire cable to slide down what is said to be 6th of October bridge in Cairo.
People at the scene were seen spreading big sheets in attempt to catch protesters falling to the ground below the bridge.
The bridge is said to be used by supporters of Mursi to get to protests in nearby Ramses square.
Heavy smoke filled the air above the Ramses area as clashes continued between pro-Mursi protesters and police.
Muslim Brotherhood protests plunged into violence across Egypt on Friday, with around 50 killed in Cairo alone during what has been termed the "Day of Rage" by Islamist followers of ousted President Mohamed Mursi.
A Reuters witness saw the bodies of 27 people, apparently hit by gunfire and birdshot, wrapped in white sheets in a mosque.
The photographer said security forces opened fire from numerous directions when a police station was attacked.
The violence followed Wednesday's (August 14) violence when police cleared out two protest camps in Cairo set up to denounce the military's overthrow of Egypt's first freely elected president, Mohamed Mursi.
At least 20 people died in clashes elsewhere in Egypt on Friday (August 16). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
