- Story Text: A Swedish man of Lebanese descent, suspected of plotting to bomb Bangkok, on Wednesday (June 12) pleaded not guilty.
Atris Hussein was arrested in January 2012 in Thailand's Suvarnabhumhi airport when he was planning to leave the country.
He was charged with the illegal possession of bomb making substances, after police found 4,380 kg of urea and 10 gallons of liquid ammonium nitrate at his residence in Bangkok.
On the day of the trial, his defense lawyer said Hussein denies possessing the substances.
"Atris Hussein, the defendant has denied the charge. He said he is just a worker," said Witthaya Buranaslip.
He added that his client also denied speculation from Thai police saying he is linked to the militant group, Hezbollah.
"There is no evidence linked to that matter. In this case, the charge is only for the illegal possession of ammonium nitrate," Witthaya said.
If found guilty, Hussein can face up to five years of prison. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
