- Story Text: A fire which killed 14 people and injured nine others, including a fireman, was caused by a gas leak, German authorities said in the southern town of Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest on Tuesday (November 27).
The fire occurred a day earlier in a workshop for disabled people run by "Caritas," an aid organisation affiliated with the Catholic Church.
"According to the fire expert's evaluation and as of this afternoon, the cause is a gas oven which was located in this workshop and which was powered by a gas container," senior public prosecutor Peter Haeberle told reporters.
"According to the evaluation, there was an uncontrolled gas leak. This gas leak then led to a combustion. The cause for this combustion is not yet known," Haeberle added.
The victims killed in the blaze were ten disabled men and three disabled women aged 28 to 68 as well as a 50-year-old carer. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
