- Story Text: Designers Alice Roi and Diane von Furstenberg showed their Fall 2004 collections Sunday, in New York.
American designer Alice Roi, known for her eclectic and metropolitan style, stayed with her signature look for Fall 2004 as she premiered her new collection on Sunday (February 8, 2004).
She says she was inspired by the working woman for this collection : "I think I am designing for a very sophisticated woman. One who wants to look polished without being contrived."
Roi's colour palette for Fall was mostly steel grey, with touches of cream and black, and the occasional splash of colour. Her look for the Fall is minimalist, with plenty of wool skirts, motorcycle jackets, twill trousers and simple blouses and shirts.
Designer Diane von Furstenberg's Fall 2004 collection is called "Glamazone" about a woman who is empowered and compassionate, strong and feminine. The designer spoke of the woman her collection would be right for.
"So the collection is very vibrant, it is sexy, it is the woman who is strong. It is to make the woman feel stronger about herself. When she is stronger, she can be kinder."
Fabrics that made up the collection included plenty of her signature chiffon, silks with splashes of cotton and wool.
The silhouettes were sexy and fitting, for a woman who fights her battles with dignity and grace.
The colours were light and feminine, and included plenty of pink, green and orange. Prints included paisley and forest flower.
Both Alice Roi and Diane von Furstenberg's shows are part of New York Fashion Week which runs until February 13, 2004. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
