- Story Text: What's considered to be noise by most people is a concert to the ears of Harley-Davidson owners who got together to listen to their bikes' roaring engines.
The drivers of nine motorbikes manufactured by the legendary American Harley-Davidson company and a trumpet player got together in Berlin to perform an unusual concert.
Composed by Sven-Ake Johannson, Dieter Schnebel and Simon Stockhausen, the "concert" included various musical directions, all of which comprised the distinguishable roaring sound of a Harley.
"The idea to create music with Harley-Davidson motor bikes came up one night as we were drinking wine", Christoph Metzger, curator of Berlin's Academy of Arts told Reuters Television.
"We wanted to work with these bikes and their especially good sound dynamics. We therefore asked three different composers to get to know the bikes, collect details and then work out a sound profile", Metzger said.
When they're not performing music, the would-be musicians are engineers, architects and entrepreneurs.
Maybe not surprisingly, the sound of roaring Harleys is not music to everybody's ears: after several rehearsals in the courtyard of Berlin's main library, authorities refused to let the concert go ahead and threatened organisers with a 50,000 euro ($56,310) fine.
The concert was therefore performed on top of a multi-storey parking garage in the Spandau district, on the outskirts of the city. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
