- Story Text: A Bangkok hospital confirmed on Monday (November 17) that infant and adult body parts in parcels destined for the United States were stolen from its medical museum.
Thai police said that two U.S. nationals suspected of trying to send the body parts in parcels to the United States had fled the country.
A baby's head, a baby's foot sliced into three parts, a heart and a "sheet of skin" with tattoo markings were found in parcels on Saturday (November 15) after staff at a shipping office in Bangkok scanned the packages, police said.
Doctors at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital said that the body parts were taken from the hospital's Medical Museum, nicknamed the Museum of Death, which exhibits preserved human remains, many of them from murder victims.
"I confirm that those are stolen from Siriraj Medical Museum. Three of them are from the forensic department. Two items are from anatomical department," said the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Udom Kachintorn.
He added that the museum's CCTV camera on November 13 showed the two Americans visiting the museum.
"The two foreigners definitely visited our museum but we cannot see from the CCTV camera that they stole those items. It is evidence that confirms the two foreigners are linked to the missing items," said Udom.
The parts were stored in plastic containers filled with formaldehyde and the packages were destined for an address in Las Vegas.
Police named the two suspects, aged 31 and 33, and said they were being "monitored," but did not elaborate on how.
