- Story Text: One Russian woman was killed in a fire at a Bangkok hotel, and 21 people were injured, hospital officials said on Friday (March 9).
Fire fighters said it took about 20 minutes to put out the fire on the fifth floor after they arrived at Grand Park Avenue hotel on Thursday (March 8) night at about 10 p.m. (1500 GMT).
Officials added that the woman died from smoke inhalation, and all except two of the wounded were released from hospital.
One tourist from Finland described his experience.
"I was up in my room at that time, on the 16th floor and I started smelling smoke. And I just put on my clothes and went out as soon as possible. I took the emergency staircase and the smoke was getting thicker and thicker," said tourist Ilkka Rankama.
Grand Park Avenue hotel said they evacuated all the guests out of the 17-floor hotel, and moved them into other hotels around the area.
The hotel is located on Sukhumvit Road, an street filled with restaurants and bars and serves as a popular hangout for tourists and foreigners living in Thailand.
