- Story Text: Queens Park Rangers kicked off their pre-season tour of South East Asia with a 5-0 victory over a Sabah Select 11 on Tuesday (July 17) night.
The London club is owned by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes and the club's high profile signing, South Korean, Park Ji-Sung, wore the captain's armband on his first appearance in the famous hooped shirt.
Inevitably , QPR defender Anton Ferdinand was questioned about the recent court case involving accusations that Chelsea defender John Terry racially abused Ferdinand during at match.
Terry was cleared by a London court after a week long trial and Ferdinand was not prepared to discuss the case at a news conference at Kuala Lumpur airport at a ceremony to launch QPR's official tour plane, sponsored by an airline.
"I don't want to comment on the ruling, I'm just here to play football and enjoy the tour of Asia and that's what I'm going to do," said ferdinand, who is the cousin of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
QPR manager Mark Hughes, himself a former Manchester United player, was asked if Park would be his captain during the premier league season but said he had yet to decide.
"I'm sure as we continue pre-season preparation an obvious choice will present himself to me. But ideally we want 11 captains on the field so it's about taking responsibility and understanding what's required," said Hughes.
The team will take on Malaysia's Super League champion Kelantan in a friendly match on Friday (July 20), followed by a trip to Indonesia's Surabaya. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
