- Story Text: A relaxed Francois Hollande greeted supporters at a local market in Tulle on Saturday (May 5), a day ahead of final round of voting which could see him as the new French president.
Hollande would be the first Socialist candidate to become head of state since Francois Mitterand became president in 1981.
On a day when official campaigning is not allowed, he laughed and chatted as a crowd of supporters and journalists followed him around.
"It's very important for me to have links with people. I have to say that I love people. I suppose now that people love me." a smiling Hollande said.
Final opinion polls put his advantage at as little as four percentage points. Hollande was buoyed by a polished performance in their only television debate on Wednesday, and far-right and centristleaders declined to back his opponent incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
