- Story Text: Egypt's first free presidential election drew to a close, after two days of voting, on Thursday evening (May 24).
The vote appears to be a fraught contest between Islamists and former officials of the ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
Candidate Amr Moussa, an ex-Arab League chief, said his party was collecting comments on election irregularities but declined to say further.
"I have a few comments (regarding election process) and we are collecting all the comments but we hope that everything has been going well," Moussa said.
Walking from his headquarters in Cairo to a polling station, he greeted well-wishers and called on all the Egyptian people to cast their votes during the last two hours of voting on Thursday (May 24).
"You are here so it is of great importance to call on all our Egyptian brothers and sisters to take up this opportunity and make use of the last hour or two and go and cast their vote. Take part in building the new Egypt. I call on everyone - and everyone who is here with me - to go and cast their vote," Moussa said.
Some 50 million Egyptians were eligible to vote in the first Egyptian free and competitive elections. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
