- Story Text: Myanmar residents in Yangon welcomed the arrival of U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday (November 14).
Despite the tight security imposed and road blocks being put at some of the main roads leading to Myanmar Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's residence, many have gathered to catch Obama's motorcade up close.
Some of them showed up with the United States flag as an expression of support for the relationship between the two countries.
"I have hope on many things from Obama, I hope he can bring various changes to our country. And the people here are also very happy that this world leader visited our country," said San Dar, a local Yangon resident.
Some hoped that Obama's visit would increase more democratic reforms in their country.
"I want Obama to make sure that the upcoming elections in Myanmar would be fair, help Suu Kyi to become president."
The U.S. president is in Yangon for a day to meet Suu Kyi as well as local youths, before he departs for the G20 meeting in Brisbane, Australia.
